I feel like a busy worker bee...or an ant, pushing rice uphill. Trying to get lots done for promotion purposes.
I will be doing a signing at the Borders in Richfield, MN, sometime in the beginning of August. I don't have an exact date, yet, because the Inventory Specialist there is checking on when they can get the book in.
I emailed Island Books, an independent bookstore on Mercer Island, WA, and they've agreed to host a release party/signing. I won a writing contest there when I was in sixth grade, so I kind of have a connection :) So I will be buying plane tickets home for sometime at the beginning of September. I'm also hoping to set up an author's visit at my high school, etc. But at least I know my family will show up, and my Grandmother will get all the ladies that work in her church library to come...watch out for Swedish women on a mission is all I have to say!
I've emailed but have not heard back from bookstores in Chicago and Duluth. I'm hoping to take a weekend to drive out to Chicago (stopping at some places in Wisconsin, probably), crash at my friend Suzi's place, and do promotional stuff. We shall see.
My first review was published in Kirkus Reviews! It's a great review, and my book got a star (which means highly recommended). You can see it at www.kirkusreviews.com. And my book was also nominated for the Top 10 Tees picks on the ALA's website, www.ala.org/ala/yalsa/teenreading/teenstopten/Complete2005TeensTTTNoms.pdf
I'm very flattered and excited. Other than that, Iv'e sent press kits to most of the high schools and junior highs in the area. I also asked the Minnesota Council of Teachers of English to put a blurb about me in their newsletter, and they graciously said they would.
I'm up to 37 pages on the latest novel, In the Shadow of an Oak, but don't expect to get much done on it this weekend because my sister will be in town for the 4th of July. Enjoy, everybody!
