Yes, I know it's been a while. There's been a lot going on, though not a lot publishing-related, I'm afraid.

My latest novel, Shadow of an Oak, is out at publishers right now searching for a home. It's about a teenager, Leonie, who discovers that the children of the old Ojibwe gods and the Norse gods who came with the immigrants in her hometown of Minneapolis are now fighting for control. It has trolls, and magic drums, the world tree, and hockey. What more could you want in a book? :)

While it's been shopping around I've start work on a new book, Sombres y Fantasmas, or Ghosts and Shadows in English. It's about an American exchange student in Argentina who begins seeing the ghosts of the victims of the Dirty War. The research for this novel is eating my brain, though it's fascinating there were a lot of terrible things done during that time period and it's not always light reading.

Books I've enjoyed recently; O.R. Melling's the Faerie Chronicles, City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau, and Laurie Mark's Earth Logic and Fire Logic (for adults).

If you've tried to email me through my website my inbox has crashed and I can't get ahold of my web guy to get it back up. Sorry :( Just leave a comment here and I'll respond.

    Hi Dena,
I was doing a search on ADHD & Ballet & your article on the "Dance Teacher" magazine came up. I am so grateful for that!!! My daughter is 7 y/o & she is currently being evaluated to see if she has ADHD; I am afraid that she strongly shows the signs of it. She is also taking Ballet & enjoys it. I was so surprised when everything you mentioned in your article about what kids with ADHD do during a ballet class, my daughter does all of them - she is just like 'Alice' from your example. My husband & I were contemplating whether to remove her from ballet & changing her to Gymnastics, which she actually enjoys more. Elizabeth loves to dance to any type of music so I wanted her to learn the basics of ballet because I beleive ballet is the foundation of all dance. I am so torn at what to do because it would be a life-altering decision we would make for her. I do not know if her current teacher would alter her classroom just for her - I dont see other girls fidgeting, distracted, etc. This ballet company teaches girls up to 18 years old so the little girls are being trained for solos on stage, etc. Most of the girls in this company go on to study professionally. This company just performed the Nutcracker at our city's mayor Theater. I dont know if we should keep her in ballet (I feel it is too slow for our daughter). I would appreciate any feedback you may have. Thank you a MILLION for your article! Would you have any other references and/or suggestions. Congratulations on your new book! How exciting! I want our daughter to be passionate about reading also. I am an applied mathematics major myself, so I am trying to instill reading as much as I can.
